What others have asked that might be helpful

Initial lesson with an individual student are a minimum of 1.5 hours. The first lesson will include eye dominance testing and gun fit. Typical lessons, following the initial lesson, are two hours.

Students traveling from longer distances tend to take a half-day session in the afternoon and a half day session the next morning (3.5 hours = a half day).

Lessons with groups of 3 to 5 students are typically a half day (3-1/2 hours) or full day (7 hours with 1 hour for lunch).

All of our lessons, with the exception of the first lesson, are minimum of two hours.

If you wish to take extended or multiple sessions, we recommend that you split the sessions to give yourself time to absorb what you’ve learned (For example; one session in the afternoon and the second session the following morning or consecutive Saturdays).

The rationale for a two hour minimum is that shotgunning is best learned through repetitive action (kinesthetic learning). In order to see improvement or change to one’s mechanics or technique, immediate reinforcement and repetition produces lasting results.

  1. Shooting vest or non-cotton shirt (cotton shirts get “sticky” and tend to cause your gun to “catch” as you mount and dismount).
  2. Eye protection
  3. Ear protection (strongly recommend in-ear plugs instead of ear muffs)
  4. Shotgun (or let us know in advance that you need a loaner gun).
  5. Shotgun shells (or purchase them from the host club if available).  As for the amount of shells you should bring, assume a shooting rate of 150 shells per hour.  This is a total number regardless of the number of participants…we won’t likely use this amount, but this is a safe number.
  6. Rain gear (we don’t cancel lessons for rain unless there is lightning), however, we also don’t make students shoot in heavy rain.
  7. Semi-auto shotgun users, please bring any and all shims with you if available.  This allows us to adjust the fit of your gun as necessary.
  8. Bottled water is always good to have in a small cooler.
  9. Sun Screen (recommended)
  10. Bug Spray (recommended)

We ask for a $50 deposit upon booking your lesson. That will be applied to the lesson.  If you have to cancel, please do so as early as possible.

If you cancel within 72 hours of the lesson and do not arrange another time (within 30 days of the original booking), you agree to pay 1/2 the price of the lesson. If you cancel within 24 hours and do not arrange another time (within 30 days of the original booking), you agree to pay full price for the lesson.

If lessons are cancelled due to severe weather, you will not pay for the time lost to weather and we will reschedule.

When booking 2-day immersion retreats or concierge shooting experiences, 75% of the cost of the trip will be required upon signed agreement of the trip details. The remainder will be required 14 days prior to the trip. Cancellations within 5 days of the start of the trip organizer agrees to forfeit the 75% deposit and any outside expenses incurred.

Wear outdoor appropriate clothing. Check the weather at the shooting range prior to arrival.

If it’s hot: shorts, a short sleeve shirt, hat (recommended) and shoes. Flip flops are ok to wear just know most locations have  a good bit of dust.

If it’s cool/cold: long sleeve shirt, vest, jacket, pants, hat (recommended) and close toed shoes. There is time when you’re not shooting, so bring anything that will keep you warm and you can remove it when you shoot.

That’s what we do!

Fill out the Contact Us form and let us know where you want to shoot and we will be in touch to get particulars from you and create a plan together.

Or call/email me any time 704-491-0038 or sportingclayxperiences@gmail.com.

Absolutely!

Having fun as a family is part of this experience. We encourage family’s playing together!

The range will have a loaner for you to use

Before the lesson we will discuss your loaner options and pricing so you’ll know exactly what to expect.

Generally, 11-12 years of age (approximately 75-80 lbs.) is required, however it will be up to the discretion of the Range Safety Officer or Instructor.

Note: Lessons are required if the child never used a shotgun and/or is shooting with an adult who is also inexperienced.
